A hemi walker is the perfect assistive walker solution for those who are weak on one side. We've picked out the best for you.
A hemi walker often referred to as a side-stepper, a one-arm walker, a hemi cane, or a side walker. "Hemi" means half, so these "half walkers" were designed to support half of your body, making them especially advantageous for someone who may have suffered a stroke or is weaker on one side. They are also best for one-handed individuals.
Since they are smaller than a traditional handicap walker, they are extremely lightweight and weigh in at typically only 3-5 lbs. Hemi walkers are also foldable, making them ultra-compact and great for travel.
In the following video, Matt demonstrates how to walk using the hemi walker so as to not put stress on the weaker side of the body.
Video Demonstrating Gait Patterns Using Hemi Walker
In this video, we will be demonstrating how to walk using a hemi walker. For the purposes of this video, Matt's involved side is his left lower extremity, as indicated by the red leg sleeve. For fitting of the unilateral assistive device, please refer to the straight cane video.
Remember that, much like a quad cane, a hemi walker has the flat side facing the patient, with the more obtuse side away from the patient. The only gait pattern to use with the hemi walker is a three-point step two gait pattern.
[Matt demonstrates walking with the hemi walker just as he describes it.]
In this gait pattern, Matt will lead with the hemi walker, followed by his involved side, with his uninvolved side going right up to those two points of contact. Again, walker involved side, uninvolved side. You may notice Matt's movements with this gait pattern are very slow, as it is tough to coordinate these.
As Matt approaches the turn, it will be the exact same procedure as used with a straight cane and a quad cane, with Matt turning toward his uninvolved side.

Why should I do business with you and not Amazon or some other home medical equipment company?
First, we are a family-run business with years of experience. We know our customers needs and we are careful about what we choose to sell to meet those needs. That’s why we sell only the very best home medical equipment brands. We also offer free shipping, low price guarantee, and easy returns.
In addition, you never need to feel uncertain over what to buy because you can engage in live chat or on the phone with an expert. Together, we’ll make sure you get exactly what you need.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free in the Continental USA for all products. Please contact us if you require shipping to Alaska or Hawaii.
What if I don't like it? What is your return policy?
Some products by law cannot be returned for hygienic reasons.. Those products are marked accordingly on the product page. For all others, we offer a 30-day return policy on most products. All returns and/or exchanges must have prior authorization. If you received a damaged product, you may return and exchange that product at no cost to you. All others will be shipped at the customer’s expense to the least costly location as determined by ADHME. A 15-20% restocking fee will also apply depending on the item. To return products, call customer service at 800-956-6616 for instructions and details.
You said you will match price if I found a cheaper price elsewhere. What do I need to do to get that low price?
Please verify with the business, where you found a cheaper price, the TOTAL cost to you, including any additional option costs and shipping costs. Please make note of their website address prior to contacting us because we will need it to verify the price. Be aware, many web (e-commerce) retailers do not include shipping with the price of their products. Or, they may have a lower cost of a particular product (i.e., wheelchair) but it will not include a necessary option (i.e., footrests). Be forewarned about all the fine print.
Some restrictions apply. For example, we may not be able to compete with "big box" stores such as Amazon or Walmart. But sometimes you may find that our advertised price is already lower than theirs!
Do you bill Medicare?
In order to keep our costs down and offer greatly reduced prices, ADHME does not bill any insurance company. However, for certain products that Medicare may partially reimburse on a purchase (i.e., commodes, lift chairs, walkers and rollators), we do provide a detailed paid invoice which will include any product HCPCS billing codes. We suggest checking with your private insurance company about possible reimbursement from them with your paid receipt.
