Sliding Tub Transfer Benches
Turn scooting into sliding! Get free shipping and guaranteed low price on tub transfer benches, or sliding shower chairs they are sometimes called, for those who can't slide themselves across a stationary bench. A real asset in the bathroom for seniors and the disabled.
What's the advantage of tub transfer benches?
Transfer benches, especially those you see here that have sliding chairs, are ideal for the elderly and the handicapped, not only because they provide a seating surface for those who have difficulty standing in the bathtub or shower while bathing, but they also provide easy access for those who are not able to step up and into the tub or shower.
What should I look for in a tub (and shower) transfer bench?
- Size: Look at these measurements:
- Seat height - Is it adjustable?
- Seat width
- Weight capacity
- Slide lengths: Most sliding transfer bench models come in a variety of different slide lengths which affects the overall length of the bench and the amount the bench extends out into the bathroom area beyond the tub wall or shower.
- Durability: Remember, it's going to get wet in the shower or bath. So you don't want a tub transfer bench and chair that will rust and corrode. Neither aluminum or plastic will do that, but aluminum provides more support that plastic.
- Cut-out seats for personal washing
- Swivel seat
- Padded seats
- Ability to reverse direction to meet the needs of your bathroom's layout
- Perforated seats to allow water to drain
- Accommodates the shower curtain to keep your bathroom floor dry
How do you use a sliding tub transfer bench?
The transfer bench itself extends beyond the edge of the bath tub (or outside of the shower). The patient sits on the chair that is attached to the bench and then slides into the shower or tub. Sliding tub transfer benches with chairs require an attendant to assist the patient.
If the patient is able to scoot themselves across a bench, our non-sliding tub transfer benches may be fine for you.
See Drive Medical demonstrate their sliding tub transfer bench in the following video. For the hearing impaired we have provided a transcript below.
(00:01) People in wheelchairs, or who have difficulty bending or lifting their legs, often use a transfer bench to get in and out of the bathtub safely. Most transfer benches require that the user sit on the outside section and then manually scoot over to the inside of the tub. Drive Medical's folding universal sliding transfer bench offers a unique, innovative solution for users up to 300 pounds by turning the scooting into sliding.
(00:30) This makes the transfer process easier and safer for both the user and the caregiver. A built-in seat belt provides additional safety and security, as do the seat drainage holes that prevent slipping. In addition, the height adjustable, angled legs, come equipped with suction tips on the bottom to ensure stability.
(00:50) Some additional features include a contoured seat back for comfort and reversible legs and handle to fit in any bathroom. And all materials are easy to clean. A soap dish on the side offers convenience. And this mesh net between the gliding bars keeps items from falling to the bottom of the tub, so users don't have to bend over or reach to pick them up.
(01:12) Safety locks prevent folding when the chair is in use. And when not in use, the bench folds for easy, convenient storage. When using the transfer bench, many users find it beneficial to add a shower sprayer. And for additional bath safety, consider adding a bath mat and grab bar. You can always count on Drive Medical to bring you convenient and innovative lifestyle solutions, now and For the Road Ahead.
Does Medicare cover the cost of a sliding tub transfer bench?
No, unfortunately, Medicare does not cover shower chairs because they're not considered medically necessary.

Why should I do business with you and not Amazon or some other home medical equipment company?
First, we are a family-run business with years of experience. We know our customers needs and we are careful about what we choose to sell to meet those needs. That’s why we sell only the very best home medical equipment brands. We also offer free shipping, low price guarantee, and easy returns.
In addition, you never need to feel uncertain over what to buy because you can engage in live chat or on the phone with an expert. Together, we’ll make sure you get exactly what you need.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is free in the Continental USA for all products. Please contact us if you require shipping to Alaska or Hawaii.
What if I don't like it? What is your return policy?
Some products by law cannot be returned for hygienic reasons.. Those products are marked accordingly on the product page. For all others, we offer a 30-day return policy on most products. All returns and/or exchanges must have prior authorization. If you received a damaged product, you may return and exchange that product at no cost to you. All others will be shipped at the customer’s expense to the least costly location as determined by ADHME. A 15-20% restocking fee will also apply depending on the item. To return products, call customer service at 800-956-6616 for instructions and details.
You said you will match price if I found a cheaper price elsewhere. What do I need to do to get that low price?
Please verify with the business, where you found a cheaper price, the TOTAL cost to you, including any additional option costs and shipping costs. Please make note of their website address prior to contacting us because we will need it to verify the price. Be aware, many web (e-commerce) retailers do not include shipping with the price of their products. Or, they may have a lower cost of a particular product (i.e., wheelchair) but it will not include a necessary option (i.e., footrests). Be forewarned about all the fine print.
Some restrictions apply. For example, we may not be able to compete with "big box" stores such as Amazon or Walmart. But sometimes you may find that our advertised price is already lower than theirs!
Do you bill Medicare?
In order to keep our costs down and offer greatly reduced prices, ADHME does not bill any insurance company. However, for certain products that Medicare may partially reimburse on a purchase (i.e., commodes, lift chairs, walkers and rollators), we do provide a detailed paid invoice which will include any product HCPCS billing codes. We suggest checking with your private insurance company about possible reimbursement from them with your paid receipt.
