Description
No Battery. No Charging. No Waiting. Just Pump and Transfer.
The Rhythm HPT400 is a 400 lb. hydraulic patient lift that does exactly what a manual lift should: pump the handle to raise, open the valve to lower, no power required. The six-point spreader bar accepts 2, 4, and 6-point slings, the rear casters lock for sling positioning, and the adjustable base opens to 39.7” for stability during transfers. At under $500, it’s the most affordable lift in our manual patient lift lineup — and for families who want a dependable, straightforward lift without the cost or complexity of an electric model, it’s a hard one to argue with.

About Rhythm Healthcare
Rhythm Healthcare designs and distributes home medical equipment focused on mobility and daily care — patient lifts, rollators, transport chairs, and related accessories. Their products are built around practical caregiver needs: straightforward operation, durable construction, and value pricing that makes quality equipment accessible for home care settings. The HPT400 reflects that approach — a no-frills hydraulic lift that does its job reliably without unnecessary complexity.
Why We Like This Lift
We carry the Rhythm HPT400 because not every care situation needs an electric lift, and not every budget supports one. For families who need a dependable full-body lift for one or two transfers a day, the HPT400 delivers the fundamentals without the extra cost: solid steel construction, a rotating pump handle that lets the caregiver work from the most comfortable angle, locking rear casters, and a six-point spreader bar that works with any sling style. The 24” minimum height is low enough to support floor transfers. At this price, it’s the lift we’d recommend to someone who needs reliable, simple, and affordable.
Best for…
- Patients up to 400 lbs. who require full-body lift support for daily transfers
- Families who want a manual lift without the cost of an electric model — no battery, no charging, always ready
- One to two transfers per day where the physical effort of pumping is manageable
- Caregivers who want Medicare-eligible equipment — manual hydraulic lifts are covered by Medicare Part B when criteria are met
- Care settings where simplicity and low maintenance are the priority
- Floor-level transfers after a fall — 24” minimum height confirmed for floor use
Feature Highlights
Rotating Pump Handle — Pump From the Most Comfortable Angle
The HPT400’s pump handle rotates from side to side, allowing the caregiver to reposition it to the most convenient pumping angle without walking around the lift. For caregivers with a dominant side or limited mobility, this is a small but meaningful ergonomic detail. Pumping with the handle in a neutral, comfortable position reduces strain over the course of a transfer — and over the course of a care day.
Six-Point Spreader Bar With 360° Rotation
The HPT400’s six-point swivel spreader bar accepts 2, 4, and 6-point slings, rotating 360° to allow the sling and patient to settle into a natural orientation throughout the transfer. All sling attachment points have hooks; chains are included for use with chain-style slings. The spreader bar works with any standard patient lift sling style — full body, divided leg, commode-opening, and mesh bathing.
24” to 75” Boom Height — Floor to Well Above Elevated Surfaces
The HPT400’s 24” minimum boom height at the sling attachment point is low enough to support floor-level transfers. The owner’s manual includes a specific floor transfer procedure: position the lift over the patient, place a pillow on the base to support the patient’s head and neck, attach the sling, and raise slowly. The 75” maximum height reaches most elevated surfaces comfortably. Confirm the floor transfer approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
Locking Rear Casters — Lock for Sling Positioning, Unlock for Lifting
The HPT400 has 4” locking rear casters. The manual is explicit on when to lock and when to leave them free: lock the rear casters ONLY when positioning or removing the sling from around the patient. During all lifting procedures, rear casters must be left unlocked — the lift needs to be free to roll and stabilize itself as the patient is raised. Locking during a lift can cause tipping.
1-Year Limited Warranty — Frame and Pump
The HPT400 is covered by a one-year limited warranty on the lift frame, mast, boom, cradle, swivel bar, and hydraulic pump. Non-durable components (rubber parts, plastic areas, painted surfaces) are covered for 3 months. If long-term frame coverage matters for your situation, the Proactive Onyx 32475 carries a limited lifetime frame warranty at a modest price difference.
Your Options at Checkout
The HPT400 does not include a free sling. You can purchase the lift without a sling if you already own compatible slings, or add one at checkout.

Setup and Safety Notes
The HPT400 ships in one carton. Two people are strongly recommended for unboxing and assembly. Read the owner’s manual completely before the first transfer.
Rhythm Healthcare strongly recommends that two attendants assist in all transfers — one to operate the lift and one to guide the patient. It is extremely important to practice the entire lifting procedure several times with supervision and a capable individual acting as patient before attempting a real transfer. Consult your healthcare provider before establishing a lift routine at home.
- Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s healthcare provider
- Inspect the pump knob before each use — turn clockwise until secure before pumping; if not tightened, the lift will not raise
- Base legs must be in the maximum open position and locked during all transfers
- Do NOT lock the rear casters when lifting — casters must be free to roll so the lift can stabilize as the patient is raised; lock ONLY when positioning or removing the sling
- Lock the wheelchair or commode brakes before lowering the patient into it
- Do not roll the lift over raised carpet, door frames, or uneven surfaces while a patient is suspended
- Always maneuver the lift using the push handles — never push on the boom, mast, or patient
- Patient’s arms should be inside the sling straps during lifting
- Never exceed the 400 lb. weight capacity
- This lift is for transfer only — not for transporting a patient from one location to another while suspended
- The hydraulic pump is sealed at the factory — do not attempt to open it; service requires return to factory
- Inspect all hardware before each use; lubricate pivot points every six months
Pair It With
- Additional patient lift slings — full body, commode opening, and divided leg styles in M, L, and XL
- Hospital bed — adjustable height simplifies positioning the lift and reduces caregiver strain during setup
- Commode chair — pairs naturally with the commode-opening sling for bathroom transfers
This lift moves slowly and smoothly — I control every movement with the pump handle and I’m with you throughout the whole transfer. The sling is designed to support you completely. We’ll practice together a few times until it feels routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a Hoyer lift?
Hoyer is a brand name that has become a widely used term for any full-body patient lift — similar to how Kleenex is used for tissue. The Rhythm HPT400 is a manual hydraulic patient lift that does everything most people mean when they say Hoyer lift: it uses a sling and spreader bar to safely lift and transfer a patient who cannot bear weight, powered by a hand pump rather than a battery.
How does a manual hydraulic lift differ from an electric one?
A manual hydraulic lift uses a hand pump to raise the patient — the caregiver pumps a handle to elevate the boom, similar to a hydraulic floor jack, and opens a control valve to lower. An electric lift uses a rechargeable battery and hand pendant — press a button and the patient rises or lowers. Manual lifts cost less, require no charging, and are eligible for Medicare coverage. Electric lifts require no physical effort, which matters for high-frequency transfers or caregivers with physical limitations. See our electric patient lifts if you’d like to compare.
Can this lift handle floor-level transfers — for example, after a fall?
Yes. The owner’s manual includes a specific floor transfer procedure. Position the lift over the patient with the suspension centered above them, place a pillow on the base to protect the patient’s head and neck, attach the sling, and raise slowly. The 24” minimum boom height at the sling attachment supports this procedure. Confirm the floor transfer approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
What slings work with this lift?
The HPT400 uses a six-point spreader bar that accepts 2, 4, and 6-point slings. Full body mesh, full body with commode opening, and divided leg with head support slings are available in M, L, and XL at checkout. The lift also includes chain connections for use with chain-style slings. If you have questions about which sling is right for your patient, call or chat with us before ordering.
Does Medicare cover this lift?
Yes. Medicare Part B covers manual hydraulic patient lifts under HCPCS code E0630 as durable medical equipment. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services , coverage applies when the lift is needed for transfers between a bed and a chair, wheelchair, or commode, and the patient would be confined to bed without it. A physician’s order establishing medical necessity is required. Once your yearly deductible is met, Medicare generally covers 80% of the approved amount. ADHME does not bill Medicare directly — we provide a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code for you to submit. Any direct Medicare billing requires a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier.
Will private insurance or HSA/FSA cover this lift?
Many private insurers cover patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn’t bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation. Patient lifts are also generally eligible expenses under HSA and FSA accounts — the paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation.
