Description
The Pump Rotates to Your Side. The Base Locks Solid. The Frame Is Warranted for Life.
The Proactive Protekt Onyx 32475 is a 450 lb. hydraulic patient lift with a limited lifetime warranty on the frame — the strongest frame coverage in our manual patient lift lineup. The pump handle rotates side to side so the caregiver can pump from the most comfortable angle, the base opens from 22” to 42.25” for transfer stability, and the six-point swivel bar accepts any sling style. At a 17” minimum boom height, it’s one of the lowest in the lineup — low enough for floor-level transfers when needed.

About Proactive Medical
Proactive Medical has been designing and manufacturing patient care equipment for over two decades, with a focus on patient lifts, slings, and positioning products for home care and clinical settings. Their Protekt line is built around the idea that professional-grade equipment should be accessible for home caregivers — durable construction, practical ergonomic features, and warranty coverage that reflects confidence in the build. The Onyx 32475 is a good example: a lift that carries a limited lifetime frame warranty at a price point typically associated with shorter coverage.
Why We Like This Lift
We carry the Protekt Onyx 32475 because it punches above its price point in the one area that matters most for a lift used daily: the frame warranty. Lifetime coverage on the frame tells you something about how Proactive Medical built it. The 17” minimum height is the lowest in this manual lineup — practically useful for floor transfers, where a higher minimum can make the procedure more awkward. The rotating pump handle and no-clip sling attachment are the kind of ergonomic details that add up over the course of a care day. If you want the best frame warranty in this lineup at a reasonable price, this is the lift.
Best for…
- Patients up to 450 lbs. who require full-body lift support for daily transfers
- Caregivers who want the strongest frame warranty in the manual lift lineup — limited lifetime coverage
- Care situations where floor-level transfers are needed — 17” minimum height is the lowest in this lineup
- Caregivers who value the no-clip sling attachment — no small hardware to misplace or reattach
- Medicare-eligible patients — manual hydraulic lifts are covered by Medicare Part B when criteria are met
- Long-term home care where frame durability and warranty coverage matter over years of daily use
Feature Highlights
Limited Lifetime Frame Warranty — The Strongest Coverage in This Lineup
The Protekt Onyx 32475 carries a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and a 1-year warranty on the pump and lift components. In a lineup where most manual lifts offer 1-year frame coverage, the lifetime warranty is a meaningful differentiator for a lift that will be used multiple times every day. Proactive Medical backs this warranty explicitly: the frame, mast, boom, cradle, and swivel bar are covered for as long as you own the lift. The pump is covered for one year; if service is needed, the sealed pump must be returned to the factory — do not attempt to open it.
17” Minimum Boom Height — The Lowest in the Manual Lineup
The Onyx 32475’s 17” minimum boom height at the sling attachment point is lower than any other lift in this manual lineup. For floor-level transfers — recovering a patient after a fall, for example — a lower minimum height means less physical maneuvering to get the sling attached and the patient lifted. The owner’s manual confirms floor transfer capability and includes the procedure. Confirm the approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
Rotating Pump Handle — Pump From the Most Comfortable Angle
The pump handle rotates from side to side, allowing the caregiver to reposition it to their most comfortable pumping angle without walking around the lift. Combined with the offset mast and boom design — which Proactive Medical notes requires less physical effort to operate than a standard straight-mast design — the Onyx is engineered to reduce caregiver strain during the pumping motion.
No-Clip Sling Attachment — Nothing Small to Lose
The Onyx 32475’s sling attachment system is designed without loose clips — the manual specifically notes “no clips to lose ensures compliance.” For caregivers managing equipment in a home setting, eliminating small hardware that can fall, get misplaced, or fail to reattach correctly is a practical safety improvement. The six-point swivel bar accepts chain-style slings with S-hooks and D-rings, as well as strap-style slings.
Six-Point Swivel Bar — Works With Every Sling Style
The 360° swivel bar accepts 2, 4, and 6-point slings in both chain and strap configurations, rotating freely so the patient settles into a natural position throughout the arc of the transfer. The swivel design eliminates side-to-side sway that can occur with fixed attachment systems. All slings must be Proactive Medical slings specifically designed for this lift — third-party slings void the warranty.

Proactive Medical Protekt Onyx 450 lb. Hydraulic Patient Lift — Product Overview and Sling Use
Hey folks, this is Damian here to show you the Proactive Medical Protekt Onyx 450-pound hydraulic patient lift.
As you can see, the unit rolls around on four casters — the back two casters lock. The base opens and closes with the lever on the back of the device. The lift raises and lowers with the hydraulic pump: pumping it up will raise it, opening the valve will lower it. At the very end of the boom is the spreader bar — that’s where we connect the slings to the device.
Using the full body mesh sling (seated patient): We already have the sling on the patient. Approach the patient with the lift and open up the base. Bring the spreader bar up to the patient. On the spreader bar there are two outside hooks and two inside center hooks. The outside hooks are for chains and a different application — do not use those to hook up the mesh sling. Use only the inside hooks. Connect the shoulder hook to the first inside hook on the spreader bar, and the leg hook to the second inside hook. Then pump the cylinder to raise the patient, paying attention to the loops and hooks to make sure everything is connected well. The patient is now raised with the Onyx patient lift.
Using the full body mesh sling (patient in bed): Approach the patient with the lifter. Take the straps and connect to the hooks — leg straps to the first hook, shoulder straps to the other hook. Repeat on the other side. Start raising the patient up, making sure all loops are connected. That’s how you transfer the patient out of bed with the Protekt Onyx lift using the full body mesh sling.
Your Options at Checkout
The Onyx 32475 does not include a free sling. You can purchase the lift without a sling if you already own compatible Proactive Medical slings, or add one at checkout. Proactive Medical slings are specifically designed for use with this lift — third-party slings are not safe and void the warranty.

Proactive Medical Sling Sizing Guide
Sling sizing should consider the patient’s weight, height, hip width, and body shape — not weight alone. If you are unsure which size is appropriate, call or chat with us before ordering. Always confirm sling selection with the patient’s healthcare provider. All slings must be Proactive Medical-approved; third-party slings void the warranty.

Setup and Safety Notes
The Onyx 32475 ships in one carton and assembles tool-free. Read the owner’s manual completely before the first transfer.
Proactive Medical recommends that two attendants assist in all transfers. Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s physician, nurse, or medical attendant. Observe a trained team perform the lifting procedures, then practice the entire procedure several times with proper supervision and a capable individual acting as patient before attempting a real transfer.
- Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s physician, nurse, or medical attendant
- Tighten the pump control valve clockwise before pumping — if not closed, the lift will not raise
- Base legs must be in the maximum open and locked position during all transfers — shifter handle must be vertical and lock pin seated in mounting hole
- Do NOT lock the rear casters when lifting — casters must be free to roll so the lift can stabilize as the patient is raised; Proactive Medical explicitly does not recommend locking rear casters during lifting as it can cause tipping
- Lock rear casters ONLY when positioning or removing the sling from around the patient
- Lock wheelchair or commode brakes before lowering the patient into the seat
- Do not roll the lift over raised carpet, door frames, or uneven surfaces while a patient is suspended
- Always maneuver the lift using the steering handles on the mast — never push on the boom or patient
- Patient’s arms should be inside the chains or straps during lifting
- Do not use incontinence pads or seat cushions between the patient and sling — this can cause the patient to slide out
- Never exceed the 450 lb. weight capacity
- This lift is for transfer only — not for transporting a patient from one location to another while suspended
- The hydraulic pump is sealed at the factory — do not attempt to open it; service requires return to factory
- Use only Proactive Medical slings with this lift — third-party slings are not safe and void the warranty
Pair It With
- Additional Proactive Medical patient lift slings — full body, commode opening, and divided leg styles in M, L, and XL
- Hospital bed — adjustable height simplifies positioning the lift and reduces caregiver strain during setup
- Commode chair — pairs naturally with the commode-opening sling for bathroom transfers
This lift moves slowly and smoothly — I control every movement and I’m with you throughout the whole transfer. The sling is designed to support you completely. We’ll practice together a few times until it feels routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a Hoyer lift?
Hoyer is a brand name that has become a widely used term for any full-body patient lift — similar to how Kleenex is used for tissue. The Proactive Protekt Onyx 32475 is a manual hydraulic patient lift that does everything most people mean when they say Hoyer lift: it uses a sling and spreader bar to safely lift and transfer a patient who cannot bear weight, powered by a hand pump rather than a battery.
What makes this lift different from the other manual lifts in this lineup?
The most meaningful difference is the limited lifetime frame warranty — no other manual lift in this lineup offers lifetime frame coverage. The 17” minimum boom height is also the lowest in the lineup, which matters for floor-level transfers. The no-clip sling attachment and rotating pump handle are ergonomic details that add up over daily use. If those factors matter for your situation, the Onyx 32475 is the lift to look at closely.
Can this lift handle floor-level transfers — for example, after a fall?
Yes. The owner’s manual confirms floor transfer capability and includes the procedure. The 17” minimum boom height at the sling attachment is the lowest in this manual lineup, making floor-level positioning more accessible than with higher-minimum lifts. Confirm the floor transfer approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
What slings work with this lift?
The Onyx 32475 requires Proactive Medical slings specifically designed for this lift. The manual is explicit: third-party slings are not to be used with Proactive Medical patient lifts and void the warranty. Full body mesh, full body with commode opening, and divided leg with head support slings are available in M, L, and XL at checkout. If you have questions about sling sizing or style, call or chat with us before ordering.
Does Medicare cover this lift?
Yes. Medicare Part B covers manual hydraulic patient lifts under HCPCS code E0630 as durable medical equipment. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services , coverage applies when the lift is needed for transfers between a bed and a chair, wheelchair, or commode, and the patient would be confined to bed without it. A physician’s order establishing medical necessity is required. Once your yearly deductible is met, Medicare generally covers 80% of the approved amount. ADHME does not bill Medicare directly — we provide a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code for you to submit. Any direct Medicare billing requires a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier.
Will private insurance or HSA/FSA cover this lift?
Many private insurers cover patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn’t bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation. Patient lifts are also generally eligible expenses under HSA and FSA accounts — the paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation.
