A Full-Featured Electric Lift That Won't Ask You to Compromise

When someone you care for can no longer move safely on their own, a patient lift changes everything — for them and for you. The Protekt® Transformer (Model 33400HE) by Proactive Medical is a full-body battery-powered electric patient lift built for real home use: a 400 lb capacity, a 6-point spreader bar, and one capability that many lifts at this price don’t have — it can lift a person from the floor. It’s one of the most capable lifts in our full lineup of electric patient lifts, and one of the few at this price point that doesn’t ask you to compromise on features to get there.

Feature Highlights

400 lb Capacity — More Headroom Than Many Lifts at This Price

Most standard home lifts are rated to 300 or 350 lbs. The Transformer’s 400 lb capacity covers a wider range of patients and gives you a meaningful safety margin. Weight ratings are maximums, not targets — working closer to the limit adds wear and risk. The extra capacity here is worth having even if you don’t need all of it today.

Lifts From the Floor — and Why That Matters

Not every patient lift can reach floor level, but this one can. If your loved one has a fall and can’t get up, the Transformer can be positioned alongside them, a sling placed underneath, and they can be raised safely without waiting for emergency services. This is one of the most important capabilities a home patient lift can have, and it’s one of the first things we look for when deciding whether to carry a lift.

6-Point Spreader Bar — More Versatile Than the Standard 4-Point

The spreader bar is the piece the sling attaches to. A 6-point bar has six attachment loops, which means it works with more sling styles — divided-leg, hammock, head-support, and commode-opening slings all attach cleanly. More points also means better weight distribution and a more stable, comfortable lift for the patient. This is one of the key differences between the Transformer and the portable Take-A-Long 33400P, which uses a 2-point bar in order to fold flat.

Battery-Powered Electric Motor — No Pumping Required

The 33400HE comes with the electric upgrade already installed on the standard Transformer frame. A rechargeable 24V battery powers the lift mechanism. The hand pendant gives you smooth up-and-down control; you charge the battery between uses. There’s no hydraulic pumping required — the motor does all the work.

Tool-Free Assembly and Disassembly

The Transformer goes together and comes apart without a toolbox. For a real home environment — where you may need to move it between rooms, store it during the day, or get it through a narrow hallway — this matters. It breaks down and reassembles in minutes.

Powder-Coated Steel Frame — Built to Last

The frame is steel with a powder-coat finish, the same type used on outdoor and industrial equipment to resist rust and wear. Proactive Medical backs the frame with a lifetime limited warranty and the pump and lift components with a one-year warranty. Parts are available and the design is modular.

Your Options at Checkout

Sling (Choose One, or Order the Lift Only)

You can purchase the lift without a sling if you already own compatible slings, or bundle it with one of these:

No Sling
Choose this if you already have Proactive Medical-compatible slings in the right size.
Full Body Mesh Sling with Commode Opening
Supports the patient from head to thigh, with an opening at the base so the sling can stay in place during toileting. Eliminates the need to remove and reattach during bathroom transfers. Good choice if commode transfers are part of the daily routine.
Full Body Divided Leg Sling with Head Support
The leg sections are separate rather than joined, which creates a more secure fit and reduces the chance of the patient sliding forward. Preferred for patients who need more positional control. Includes head support.
Full Body Mesh Bathing Sling with Head Support
Open mesh construction drains water and dries quickly, making it appropriate for shower or tub transfers. Head support included.

Slings come in multiple sizes. If you’re not sure which size to choose, call or chat with us before ordering — proper fit is important for both safety and comfort.

Digital Scale (Optional)

Attaches between the spreader bar and sling and displays the patient’s weight during each lift. Useful when a care plan requires regular weight monitoring — no separate weigh-in needed.

Battery and Charger Kit (Optional)

A second battery means the lift is always ready without waiting for a recharge. Worth it if the lift is used multiple times a day.

BATTERY NOTE: The battery and cradle can be purchased separately in the “Frequently bought with” section under the product photos above. Or select the kit, which includes both, in the product options when you’re adding to the cart.

Setup and Safety Notes

The Transformer ships curbside in one box. Assembly is tool-free and most caregivers complete it in under 30 minutes. Assemble it in the room where it will primarily be used before the first transfer.

  • Lock the casters before every transfer. The rear wheels have brakes — use them every time.
  • Check the sling for wear before each use. Replace if fabric is fraying or loops show stress.
  • Use only Proactive Medical-compatible slings. Third-party slings void the warranty.
  • Never exceed the 400 lb weight limit.
  • One caregiver can operate this lift. Having a second person present for the first few transfers is worth it until the routine feels natural.
Before you begin

We recommend consulting with your healthcare provider or physical therapist before establishing a patient lift routine at home.

Pair It With

  • Compatible patient lift slings — Additional slings in divided leg, full body, and mesh bathing styles
  • Hospital bed — Adjustable height makes positioning the lift easier; frequently purchased together for home care setups
  • Commode chair — Pairs naturally with the commode-opening sling for bathroom transfers
  • Overbed table — Useful for patients spending significant time in bed between transfers
For the caregiver What to tell your loved one

A patient lift can feel unfamiliar — even a little alarming — the first time someone sees one. It helps to explain it simply: this is equipment that takes the physical effort out of moving, so neither of you has to strain. The sling is designed to be comfortable and supportive, and the lift moves slowly and smoothly — you control it completely. If they’re apprehensive, going slowly on the first transfer and talking them through each step makes a real difference. Most people are surprised by how secure they feel once they’re in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription to buy this?

No — you can purchase it directly without a prescription. If you plan to seek Medicare or insurance reimbursement, your insurer will typically require a physician’s order or letter of medical necessity. We provide the invoice; your doctor provides the medical documentation.

What’s the difference between this lift and the Take-A-Long 33400P?

Both are Proactive Medical electric lifts with 400 lb capacity, and both are battery-powered with hand-pendant controls. The Transformer stays in your home — it disassembles for storage but doesn’t fold for travel. The Take-A-Long folds flat to fit in most car trunks, which makes it the right choice for families who travel or who need to store the lift in a small apartment. The trade-off: the Take-A-Long uses a 2-point spreader bar vs. this lift’s 6-point bar, which limits compatible sling types. If the lift will live in your home and mostly stay in one or two rooms, the Transformer is the better-equipped option.

Will Medicare pay for this patient lift?

Medicare covers manual hydraulic patient lifts as durable medical equipment, but not electric lifts. If you're set on an electric lift, there's a path worth knowing about: Medicare may reimburse you for what it would have paid toward a comparable manual lift, and you pay the difference. The catch is that any Medicare benefit requires the purchase to go through a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier — which ADHME is not. If maximizing your Medicare benefit is the priority, we'd recommend going that route instead.

Private insurance: Many private insurers cover electric patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn't bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation.

HSA and FSA: Patient lifts are generally eligible expenses under Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. The paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation for reimbursement.

Use HCPCS Code E0635 when submitting to your private insurer for reimbursement.
