Lifts up to 1000 lbs. ••• Canvas sling with chains included ••• Manual lever adjusts boom height ••• Foot pedal adjusts base leg width ••• 4" swivel casters and locking 5" rear swivel casters ••• Helps make transfers safer for both patient and caregiver

When Standard Lifts Max Out, the P1000 Keeps Going — Up to 1,000 lbs., Canvas Sling Included.

The Tuffcare Rhino P1000 is a 1,000 lb. bariatric hydraulic patient lift — the heaviest-capacity manual lift in our manual patient lift lineup and one of the few at any price point rated to that capacity. The frame is carbon steel with reinforced high-stress areas, the heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder is operated by a crank handle, and the foot pedal opens and closes the base legs without bending. A heavy-duty canvas sling with chains rated to 1,000 lbs. is included.

For bariatric patients who have outgrown standard 450–600 lb. electric lifts, the P1000 provides a hydraulic solution without the cost of an institutional hoist system.

Canvas sling with chains included — heavy-duty solid fabric; rated to 1,000 lbs.
Heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder — operated by a crank handle; designed for bariatric patient weights
Crank handle raises and lowers the boom — tighten the release knob clockwise to raise; loosen counterclockwise to lower
Foot pedal base adjustment — step right to open base legs, step left to close; no bending required
27” to 70” boom height at sling attachment — low enough for floor-level transfers at the bottom of that range; high enough to clear most elevated beds and surfaces at the top
5.5” base clearance — slides under most standard and bariatric beds
Wide base — opens to 49.5” — extra-wide stance provides stability for bariatric patient transfers
Six-point swivel bar with 360° rotation — accepts 2, 4, and 6-point slings
Dual 4” front swivel casters / 5” rear locking casters — rear casters lock for sling positioning; unlock during lifting
Adjustable lift arm length — adapts to different transfer needs
191 lbs. lift weight — plan accordingly for assembly; two people required
Welds warranted for life of lift / 1-year parts warranty

Working with home-med-equipment.com was an absolute dream. I received a call from the owner to make sure all was well. Matthew went to work to fulfill an important order for my elderly Mom. I was so impressed.

Why We Like This Lift

We carry the Tuffcare P1000 because there is simply no other manual patient lift in this lineup — or most lineups — that handles 1,000 lbs.

For bariatric patients who have outgrown standard electric lift capacity, the P1000 provides a solution that doesn’t require an institutional hoist system. The foot pedal base, the heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder, the reinforced carbon steel frame, and the included canvas sling are all built around the specific demands of bariatric care. The welds are warranted for the life of the lift.

If your patient is within the 400–450 lb. range of our other manual lifts, one of those is likely the better fit. The P1000 is built for situations where standard capacity simply isn’t enough.

Best for…

  • Bariatric patients up to 1,000 lbs. who require full-body lift support for transfers
  • Care situations where standard 450–600 lb. electric lifts have been outgrown
  • Facilities or home care settings that need a bariatric manual lift without the cost of a hoist system
  • Caregivers who need a foot pedal base — no bending to open the legs on a 191 lb. lift
  • Floor-level recovery transfers — confirmed from owner’s manual

Feature Highlights

1,000 lb. Bariatric Capacity — Built and Rated for Heavier Patients

The P1000 is rated for patients up to 1,000 lbs., with a carbon steel frame reinforced at all high-stress areas specifically for bariatric use. The heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder is designed to handle bariatric patient weights with a crank handle mechanism. Capacity ratings are working limits — operating within the rated capacity is what keeps transfers safe and extends the life of the lift. The included canvas sling with chains is independently rated to 1,000 lbs.

Foot Pedal Base — Open the Legs Without Bending on a 191 lb. Lift

On a lift weighing 191 lbs., the ability to open and close the base legs without bending is especially meaningful. The P1000 uses a foot pedal: step right to open the legs to the maximum open position, step left to close. The base opens to 49.5” — an extra-wide stance that provides the lateral stability needed for bariatric patient transfers. Legs must be in the maximum open position during all transfers.

27” to 70” Boom Height — Floor to Elevated Surfaces

The boom height at the sling attachment point adjusts from 27” to 70” from the floor — low enough for floor-level transfers at the bottom of that range, and high enough to clear most elevated beds and surfaces at the top. The owner’s manual confirms floor transfer capability and includes the procedure. For bariatric patients on the floor after a fall, this is a critical capability. Confirm the approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.

Canvas Sling With Chains Included

The P1000 includes a heavy-duty solid fabric canvas sling with chains, rated to 1,000 lbs. For most bariatric transfer situations, this sling handles the immediate need without an additional purchase. Additional or replacement slings are not available at checkout for this product. Contact us in live chat if you need a replacement or additional bariatric sling.

Welds Warranted for Life — Parts Covered for 1 Year

Tuffcare warrants all welds on the P1000 for the life of the lift — a meaningful commitment on a bariatric lift that will bear significant mechanical stress over time. Parts are covered for 1 year from the original purchase date. Given the weight demands placed on this lift, the lifetime weld warranty is the assurance that matters most.

Your Options at Checkout

The P1000 includes a heavy-duty canvas sling with chains rated to 1,000 lbs. No additional sling options are available at checkout for this product. If you need a replacement or additional bariatric sling, contact us in live chat before ordering.

Setup and Safety Notes

The P1000 ships at 191 lbs. Two people are required for unboxing and assembly. Read the owner’s manual completely before the first transfer.

Two caregivers required for bariatric transfers

Tuffcare recommends that two assistants participate in all patient transfers with the P1000. Given the patient weights this lift is designed to handle, two caregivers are especially important for safe operation. Consult your healthcare provider or physical therapist before establishing a lift routine at home.

  • Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s healthcare provider
  • Tighten the release knob all the way clockwise before cranking to raise — if not secured, the lift will not raise
  • Step down on the right side of the foot pedal to open base legs to maximum position — legs must be fully open during all transfers
  • Do NOT lock the rear casters when lifting — casters must be free to roll so the lift can stabilize as the patient is raised
  • Lock rear casters ONLY when positioning or removing the sling from around the patient
  • Lock wheelchair or commode brakes before lowering the patient into the seat
  • Do not roll the lift over uneven surfaces, raised carpet, or door frames while a patient is suspended
  • Always maneuver the lift using the push handles — never push on the boom or patient
  • Patient’s arms should be outside the sling straps during lifting
  • Keep the patient as low as possible when moving with patient in sling — lower center of gravity improves stability
  • Never exceed the 1,000 lb. weight capacity
  • This lift is for transfer only — not for transporting a patient from one location to another while suspended

Pair It With

  • Hospital bed — adjustable height simplifies positioning the lift and reduces caregiver strain during setup
  • Bariatric commode chair — pairs naturally with bariatric transfers for bathroom use
For the caregiver What to tell your loved one

This lift is built specifically to support patients at your size safely and comfortably. The sling supports you completely and I control every movement. We will go slowly and practice together until it feels familiar and routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Hoyer lift?

Hoyer is a brand name that has become a widely used term for any full-body patient lift — similar to how Kleenex is used for tissue. The Tuffcare Rhino P1000 is a bariatric manual hydraulic patient lift that does everything most people mean when they say Hoyer lift: it uses a sling and spreader bar to safely lift and transfer a patient who cannot bear weight, powered by a hand crank rather than a battery — and rated to do so for patients up to 1,000 lbs.

Why would I choose a manual bariatric lift over a bariatric electric lift?

The primary reasons are cost and capacity. Most bariatric electric lifts top out at 600 lbs. The P1000 goes to 1,000 lbs. — a capacity that simply isn’t available in electric models at this price point. Manual lifts also require no charging and are eligible for Medicare coverage. The trade-off is physical effort: cranking a hydraulic lift with a bariatric patient requires meaningful caregiver effort, and two caregivers should always be present. If your patient is within the 600 lb. range of an electric lift and the physical effort is a concern, see our electric patient lifts.

Can this lift handle floor-level transfers — for example, after a fall?

Yes. The owner’s manual confirms floor transfer capability and includes the procedure. The boom height at the sling attachment adjusts from 27” to 70” from the floor — low enough for floor-level transfers at the bottom of that range. For a bariatric patient on the floor, follow the manual’s floor transfer procedure carefully and ensure two caregivers are present. Confirm the approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.

What sling is included and can I add others?

The P1000 includes a heavy-duty solid canvas sling with chains rated to 1,000 lbs. No additional sling styles are available at checkout for this product. If you need a replacement or additional bariatric sling, contact us in live chat before ordering and we’ll help you find the right option.

Does Medicare cover this lift?

Yes. Medicare Part B covers manual hydraulic patient lifts under HCPCS code E0630 as durable medical equipment. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (opens in new tab), coverage applies when the lift is needed for transfers between a bed and a chair, wheelchair, or commode, and the patient would be confined to bed without it. A physician’s order establishing medical necessity is required. Once your yearly deductible is met, Medicare generally covers 80% of the approved amount. ADHME does not bill Medicare directly — we provide a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code for you to submit. Any direct Medicare billing requires a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier.

Will private insurance or HSA/FSA cover this lift?

Many private insurers cover patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn’t bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation. Patient lifts are also generally eligible expenses under HSA and FSA accounts — the paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation.
