Description
A Solid, Straightforward 400 lb. Electric Patient Lift With a 3-Year Frame Warranty
The Lumex LF1050 is a 400 lb. battery-powered electric patient lift built around simplicity — foot pedal opens the base, hand pendant controls the boom, and a 6-point spreader bar accepts 2, 4, or 6-point slings. It does the job without the complexity of a power base or dual-battery system, and backs that up with one of the stronger warranties in this class: 3 years on the frame, 2 years on the actuator and electronics, and 1 year on the battery.
If your care routine includes regular weight monitoring, the optional DSC250 digital scale attaches directly to the lift and measures up to 600 lbs.

About the Lumex Brand
For over 50 years, Lumex® (a proud brand of Graham-Field) has been trusted by healthcare professionals and home caregivers alike for engineering industry-leading patient mobility solutions. Built on a foundation of uncompromising safety and exceptional durability, Lumex patient lifts are designed with practical, real-world ergonomics in mind—featuring ultra-low profile bases for tight spaces, 360-degree rotating spreader bars for smooth transfers, and foot-pedal adjustments to eliminate caregiver strain.
When you invest in a Lumex lift, you are choosing institutional-grade structural integrity, rigorous safety testing, and reliable manufacturer warranties designed to bring ultimate comfort to patients and complete peace of mind to caregivers.
Why We Like This Lift
We carry the Lumex LF1050 because it delivers a clean, dependable transfer experience without overcomplicating the caregiver’s routine. The foot pedal base, the multi-level battery indicator, the overload alarm, the accessory storage bag — these are details that show Lumex thought about who actually uses this lift and what makes their day easier. The 3-year frame and 2-year actuator warranty is among the strongest coverage at this weight class in our lineup, and that matters for equipment used multiple times every day. If the 400 lb. capacity fits your patient and you want the option to add a patient scale, the LF1050 is the lift we’d point to.
Best for…
- Patients up to 400 lbs. who require full-body lift support for daily transfers
- Caregivers who want a foot-pedal base — no bending to open the legs by hand
- Care situations where monitoring patient weight over time is part of the routine — the optional DSC250 scale attaches directly to the lift
- Long-term home care where warranty coverage matters — 3 years on the frame, 2 years on electronics and actuator
- Caregivers who prefer a straightforward single-battery system with clear charge indicators
- Transfers from bed, floor, wheelchair, or commode
Feature Highlights
Foot Pedal Base — Open the Legs Without Bending
Most patient lifts at this price point open the base legs with a manual shifter handle, which requires the caregiver to grip and push at waist or knee height. The LF1050 uses an ergonomic foot pedal instead — press down with your foot to open the legs, reverse to close. For caregivers managing multiple transfers a day, or those with back or shoulder limitations, the difference in cumulative physical strain is real. The base opens to 37.5” and locks securely before lifting.
Multi-Level Battery Indicator With Audible Alarms
The LF1050’s control box has a 5-LED battery indicator that shows remaining charge at a glance — from fully charged (all five LEDs illuminated) down to bad batteries (no LEDs). Audible alarms provide additional warning: 2 beeps per second at low battery, 3 beeps per second when critically low, and 6 beeps per second when nearly depleted. To check remaining charge without starting a lift, press the battery indicator button while the lift is at rest.
Overload Protection — The Lift Stops Before an Unsafe Transfer Begins
If the weight on the spreader bar exceeds the 400 lb. rated capacity, the LF1050 sounds 3 long beeps and stops. This is a meaningful safety feature for home caregivers who may not have precise knowledge of the patient’s current weight. The lift will not attempt to raise a patient beyond its safe working load — lower immediately to the bed or chair and reassess before proceeding.
6-Point Spreader Bar With 360° Rotation
The LF1050’s 6-point spreader bar accepts 2, 4, and 6-point Lumex slings and rotates 360° so the sling and patient can settle into a natural orientation throughout the arc of the transfer. The bar also tilts to enhance patient comfort and stability during lifting and lowering. All slings must be Lumex slings specifically designed for the LF1050 — the manual is explicit on this point, and third-party slings void the warranty.
Emergency Lowering Device — Mechanical Backup at the Actuator
If power fails while a patient is suspended, the emergency lowering device is located at the top of the actuator shaft. It is a plastic collar ring — turn it clockwise continuously until the patient has been safely lowered. This device lowers only; it cannot raise the patient. Contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 immediately after any emergency lowering before resuming use of the lift.
Optional DSC250 Digital Patient Scale — Weigh During the Transfer
The DSC250 digital scale attaches directly to the LF1050 and measures patient weight up to 600 lbs. in pounds or kilograms using simple 4-button operation. It includes auto power-off to preserve battery life, a low battery indicator, and all attachment hardware. Covered by a 2-year limited warranty. For caregivers managing conditions where patient weight needs regular monitoring — wound care, nutritional management, fluid monitoring — adding the scale at checkout eliminates a separate weighing step and a separate piece of equipment.
3-Year Frame / 2-Year Actuator and Electronics Warranty
The LF1050’s warranty covers the lift frame and spreader bar for 3 years, the actuator for 2 years, and parts including the control box, pendant, casters, and charger for 2 years. The battery is covered for 1 year. Lumex notes that batteries typically need replacement every 18–24 months depending on usage frequency.
Your Options at Checkout
Patient Sling (Optional)
The LF1050 does not include a free sling. You can purchase the lift without a sling if you already own compatible Lumex slings in the correct size, or add one at checkout. All slings must be Lumex slings specifically designed for the LF1050 — use of non-Lumex slings voids the warranty.
Digital Patient Scale (Optional)
Which Sling Should You Buy?
| Patient need | Recommended sling type |
|---|---|
| General transfers | Full body mesh sling |
| Showering or bathing | Full body mesh sling |
| Toileting transfers | Full body with commode opening |
| Limited head or neck control | Divided leg with head support |
Lumex LF1050 Sling Sizing Guide
Sling sizing should consider the patient’s torso girth, weight, and body shape — not weight alone. If you are unsure which size is appropriate, call or chat with us before ordering. Always confirm sling selection with the patient’s healthcare provider. All slings must be Lumex-approved; third-party slings void the warranty.
| Size | Torso Girth | Weight Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 29”–48” | 400 lbs. |
| Large | 36”–59” | 400 lbs. |
| X-Large | >=57" | 600 lbs. |

Setup and Safety Notes
The LF1050 ships in one carton. GF Health Products strongly recommends two people for unboxing and assembly. Before first use, charge the batteries for 10–12 hours. Do not charge for more than 12 hours. Read the owner’s manual completely before the first transfer.
- Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s healthcare provider
- Two caregivers are strongly recommended by GF Health Products for all lifting procedures
- Turn the red reset button clockwise to power on before use — the lift will not operate if the reset button is pressed down
- Base legs must be in the maximum open position during all lifting and lowering
- Do not lock or block the casters when lifting — casters must be free to roll so the lift can stabilize as the patient is raised
- Lock the brakes of the destination (wheelchair or commode) before lowering the patient into it
- Do not roll the lift over uneven surfaces, raised carpet bindings, or door frames while a patient is suspended
- Always maneuver the lift using the steering handle — never push on the mast, boom, actuator, or patient
- Use only Lumex slings specifically designed for the LF1050 — third-party slings are not safe and void the warranty
- Do not place cushions or pads between the patient and the sling — this can cause the patient to slide out
- Never exceed the 400 lb. weight capacity — 3 long beeps indicate overload; lower the patient immediately
- This lift is for transfer only — not for transporting a patient from one location to another while suspended
- The lift will not operate while plugged in for charging — disconnect charger before use
- If power fails while a patient is suspended: turn the emergency lowering collar ring at the top of the actuator shaft clockwise continuously until the patient is safely lowered; contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 before resuming use
- Replace batteries every 18–24 months depending on usage frequency
Pair It With
- Additional Lumex patient lift slings — full body, commode opening, and divided leg styles in M, L, and XL
- Hospital bed — adjustable height simplifies positioning the lift and reduces caregiver strain during setup
- Commode chair — pairs naturally with the commode-opening sling for bathroom transfers
This lift moves slowly and smoothly — I control every movement with the hand pendant and I’m with you throughout the whole transfer. The sling is designed to support you completely. If anything unexpected happened with the power, there’s a manual backup that lets me lower you safely. We’ll practice a few times until it feels routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a Hoyer lift?
Hoyer is a brand name that has become a widely used term for any full-body electric patient lift — similar to how Kleenex is used for tissue. The Lumex LF1050 is a battery-powered electric patient lift that does everything most people mean when they say Hoyer lift: it uses a sling and spreader bar to safely lift and transfer a patient who cannot bear weight, powered by a rechargeable battery and controlled by a hand pendant.
What is the weight capacity, and how much margin should I plan for?
The Lumex LF1050 is rated to 400 lbs. Capacity ratings are working limits — operating the lift near its maximum puts more stress on every component and reduces safety margin. If your patient weighs 350–380 lbs., the LF1050 provides appropriate margin. If your patient is close to or above 400 lbs., the Lumex LF1090 is rated to 600 lbs. The LF1050 also has a built-in overload alarm — 3 long beeps — that stops the lift if capacity is exceeded.
Can this lift handle floor-level transfers — for example, after a fall?
Yes. The owner’s manual includes a specific floor transfer procedure. The 27” minimum boom height refers to the sling hook-up point — because the sling lays flat under the patient first and the straps do the lifting work, the LF1050 can support floor-level transfers. A pillow placed on the base protects the patient’s head and neck during floor lifts. Confirm the approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
What slings work with this lift?
The LF1050 requires Lumex slings specifically designed for this lift. The manual is explicit: do not use third-party slings, as this creates a safety risk and voids the warranty. Lumex slings — full body mesh, full body with commode opening, and divided leg with head support — are available in M, L, and XL at checkout. If you need a Small or XX-Large, contact us in live chat and we can order it for you. If you have questions about which sling is right for your patient’s needs, call or chat with us before ordering.
How do I know when the battery needs charging?
The control box has a 5-LED battery indicator. Press the battery indicator button while the lift is not in motion to check remaining charge. Audible alarms also sound: 2 beeps per second when low, 3 beeps per second when critically low, and 6 beeps per second when nearly depleted. Charge the battery immediately when any alarm sounds. Batteries typically need replacement every 18–24 months depending on how frequently the lift is used.
What happens if the power fails while a patient is suspended?
The LF1050 has a manual emergency lowering device at the top of the actuator shaft — a plastic collar ring. Turn it clockwise continuously until the patient has been safely lowered. This device lowers only; it cannot raise the patient. After any emergency lowering, contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 before resuming use of the lift.
Will insurance cover this lift?
Medicare covers manual hydraulic patient lifts as durable medical equipment, but not electric lifts. If you’re set on an electric lift, there’s a path worth knowing about: Medicare may reimburse you for what it would have paid toward a comparable manual lift, and you pay the difference. Any Medicare benefit requires the purchase to go through a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier — which ADHME is not. If maximizing your Medicare benefit is the priority, we’d recommend going that route instead.
Private insurance: Many private insurers cover electric patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn’t bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation.
HSA and FSA: Patient lifts are generally eligible expenses under Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. The paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation for reimbursement.
Use HCPCS Code E0635 when submitting to your private insurer for reimbursement.
