Description
500 lb. Electric Patient Lift With Power Base, Dual Batteries, and a 55.5” Lifting Range.
The Lumex LF500 Pro is a 500 lb. battery-powered electric patient lift that steps up from the LF1050 in every meaningful way — more capacity, a wider lifting range, a power base that opens and closes the legs from the hand pendant or control box, and two batteries so the lift is never waiting on a charge. The 19.3” minimum boom height is low enough for floor-level transfers, and the 74.8” maximum reaches well above most elevated surfaces. If you need a lift that handles more demanding care situations without adding operational complexity, the LF500 Pro is one worth looking at closely. See how it compares to others in our electric patient lift lineup.

About Lumex
For over 50 years, Lumex® (a proud brand of Graham-Field) has been trusted by healthcare professionals and home caregivers alike for engineering industry-leading patient mobility solutions. Built on a foundation of uncompromising safety and exceptional durability, Lumex patient lifts are designed with practical, real-world ergonomics in mind — featuring ultra-low profile bases for tight spaces, 360-degree rotating spreader bars for smooth transfers, and foot-pedal adjustments to eliminate caregiver strain. When you invest in a Lumex lift, you are choosing institutional-grade structural integrity, rigorous safety testing, and reliable manufacturer warranties designed to bring ultimate comfort to patients and complete peace of mind to caregivers.
Why We Like This Lift
We carry the LF500 Pro because it closes the gap between home-care convenience and clinical-grade capability. The power base, the dual-battery system, the LCD display, the force interference stop — these aren’t premium extras, they’re practical tools that reduce caregiver effort and add meaningful safety redundancy on every transfer. The 55.5” lifting range is the widest in the Lumex floor lift lineup, which matters when you’re working around varying bed heights, floor transfers, and elevated surfaces in the same day. If you need 400 lbs. of capacity and want a simpler setup, the Lumex LF1050 is the step down. If you need 600 lbs., see the Lumex LF1090.
Best for…
- Patients up to 500 lbs. who require full-body lift support for daily transfers
- Caregivers who want a power base — both boom height and base leg width controlled from the pendant or control box, no manual adjustment
- High-frequency transfer situations where the dual-battery system eliminates charging downtime
- Care settings with varying surface heights — the 55.5” lifting range handles floor transfers, standard beds, and elevated surfaces
- Caregivers who prefer the added visibility of an LCD display showing lift status and battery level
- Long-term home care where warranty coverage matters — 3 years on the frame, 2 years on actuators and electronics
Feature Highlights
Power Base — Open and Close the Legs From the Pendant or Control Box
On most patient lifts at this price point, opening and closing the base legs requires the caregiver to physically operate a foot pedal or shifter handle. The LF500 Pro does both from the same controls used to raise and lower the boom — press the open or close button on the hand pendant or control box. This matters most for caregivers with limited mobility, those doing many transfers daily, or anyone working in tight spaces where bending to reach a pedal is awkward. The base opens from 25.6” to 39.4” and locks in position.
Dual Battery System — Always Ready
The LF500 Pro includes two battery packs and a remote wall/desk charging caddy. One battery powers the lift while the other charges remotely — so the lift is never out of service waiting on a recharge. The battery can also be charged while still in the lift by plugging the charger directly into the control box, but note that the lift will not operate while charging this way. For continuous availability, the remote caddy is the practical solution: keep the spare fully charged and swap when the pendant indicator signals low battery.
19.3” to 74.8” Boom Height — Floor to Well Above Elevated Surfaces
The LF500 Pro has a 55.5” total lifting range — from a 19.3” minimum that supports floor-level transfers to a 74.8” maximum that clears most elevated hospital beds and transfer surfaces with room to spare. The manual confirms floor lifting is supported; the procedure for lifting from the floor is included in the owner’s manual. For caregivers managing patients who are at fall risk, that floor-capable minimum is a meaningful safety net.
LCD Display and Dual Controls — Operate From Wherever You Are
The LF500 Pro can be operated from either the wired hand pendant or the control box mounted on the mast — whichever is more practical for a given transfer. The LCD display on the control box shows lift status, battery level, and alert notifications at a glance, eliminating the need to count LED lights or listen for beep patterns. Both controls operate boom height and base leg width with long-press buttons for raise, lower, open, and close.
Force Interference Stop — Lift Stops if Something Gets in the Way
If the LF500 Pro detects resistance while lowering — a limb, a piece of furniture, anything that shouldn’t be there — it stops automatically. The manual calls this the force interference protection and displays an alert on the control box. Remove the obstruction, clear the alert, and continue. For a caregiver managing a transfer alone, this automatic response provides meaningful protection without requiring a second set of eyes on every movement.
Emergency Lowering — Pull Down, Then Turn Clockwise
If power fails while a patient is suspended, the LF500 Pro’s emergency lowering device is at the top of the actuator shaft. Unlike the LF1050, which requires only a clockwise turn, the LF500 Pro requires two steps: pull the collar ring down first, then turn clockwise continuously until the patient is safely lowered. Familiarize yourself with this procedure before first use — it is different from other Lumex lifts. Contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 before resuming use after any emergency lowering.
3-Year Frame / 2-Year Actuators and Electronics Warranty
The LF500 Pro carries the same strong warranty as the LF1050: 3 years on the frame and spreader bar, 2 years on both actuators, the control box, pendant, casters, and charger, and 1 year on the batteries. Given that this lift has two actuators (one for the boom, one for the power base), the 2-year actuator coverage on both is worth noting.

Sling
The LF500 Pro does not include a free sling. You can purchase the lift without a sling if you already own compatible Lumex slings in the correct size, or choose a sling and/or scale below. All slings must be Lumex slings specifically designed for the LF500 — use of non-Lumex slings voids the warranty.
Digital Scale
Which Sling Should You Buy?
| Patient need | Recommended sling type |
|---|---|
| General transfers | Full body mesh sling |
| Showering or bathing | Full body mesh sling |
| Toileting transfers | Full body with commode opening |
| Limited head or neck control | Divided leg with head support |
Lumex LF500 Sling Sizing Guide
Sling sizing should consider the patient’s torso girth, weight, and body shape — not weight alone. If you are unsure which size is appropriate, call or chat with us before ordering. Always confirm sling selection with the patient’s healthcare provider. All slings must be Lumex-approved; third-party slings void the warranty.
| Size | Torso Girth | Weight Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 29”–48” | 400 lbs. |
| Large | 36”–59” | 400 lbs. |
| X-Large | ≥57” | 600 lbs. |
If you require a Small or XX-Large, please talk to us in live chat — we can order this for you.
Setup and Safety Notes
The LF500 Pro ships in one carton. GF Health Products strongly recommends two people for unboxing and assembly. Before first use, charge the battery for 10–12 hours. Read the owner’s manual completely before the first transfer.
- Do not attempt any transfer without prior approval from the patient’s healthcare provider
- Two caregivers are strongly recommended by GF Health Products for all lifting procedures
- Ensure the red button on top of the control box is in the UP position before use — the lift will not operate if it is in the DOWN position
- Base legs must be in the maximum open position during all lifting and lowering
- Do not lock or block the casters when lifting — casters must be free to roll so the lift can stabilize as the patient is raised
- Lock the brakes of the destination (wheelchair or commode) before lowering the patient into it
- Do not roll the lift over uneven surfaces, raised carpet bindings, or door frames while a patient is suspended
- Always maneuver the lift using the steering handle — never push on the mast, boom, actuator, or patient
- Use only Lumex slings specifically designed for the LF500 — third-party slings are not safe and void the warranty
- Do not place cushions or pads between the patient and the sling — this can cause the patient to slide out
- Never exceed the 500 lb. weight capacity — an overload alarm will sound and the lift will stop; lower the patient immediately
- If the force interference alert appears, remove the obstruction before continuing
- This lift is for transfer only — not for transporting a patient from one location to another while suspended
- The lift will not operate while plugged in for charging via the control box — use the remote caddy to charge the spare battery while the lift remains in service
- If power fails while a patient is suspended: pull the emergency lowering collar ring at the top of the actuator shaft DOWN first, then turn clockwise continuously until the patient is safely lowered; contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 before resuming use
Pair It With
- Additional Lumex patient lift slings — full body, commode opening, and divided leg styles in M, L, and XL
- Hospital bed — adjustable height simplifies positioning the lift and reduces caregiver strain during setup
- Commode chair — pairs naturally with the commode-opening sling for bathroom transfers
This lift moves slowly and smoothly — I control every movement from a hand-held pendant and I’m with you throughout the whole transfer. The sling is designed to support you completely, and the lift automatically stops if it detects anything in the way while lowering. If the power ever failed, there’s a manual backup that lets me lower you safely. We’ll practice together until it feels routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a Hoyer lift?
Hoyer is a brand name that has become a widely used term for any full-body electric patient lift — similar to how Kleenex is used for tissue. The Lumex LF500 Pro is a battery-powered electric patient lift that does everything most people mean when they say Hoyer lift: it uses a sling and spreader bar to safely lift and transfer a patient who cannot bear weight, powered by a rechargeable battery and controlled by a hand pendant.
How does the LF500 Pro compare to the Lumex LF1050?
The LF500 Pro steps up from the LF1050 in four key ways: 500 lb. vs. 400 lb. capacity; a power base that opens and closes legs from the pendant vs. a manual foot pedal; two batteries with remote charging vs. a single battery; and a wider 55.5” lifting range vs. 42”. If your patient is within the LF1050’s 400 lb. capacity and the manual foot pedal works for your situation, the LF1050 is the more economical choice. If you need more capacity, continuous availability, or the convenience of a power base, the LF500 Pro is the right step up.
Can this lift handle floor-level transfers — for example, after a fall?
Yes. The owner’s manual includes a specific floor transfer procedure. The 19.3” minimum boom height refers to the sling hook-up point — because the sling lays flat under the patient first and the straps do the lifting work, the LF500 Pro supports floor-level transfers. Confirm the approach with the patient’s physician or physical therapist before first use.
What slings work with this lift?
The LF500 Pro requires Lumex slings specifically designed for this lift. The manual is explicit: do not use third-party slings, as this creates a safety risk and voids the warranty. Lumex slings — full body mesh, full body with commode opening, and divided leg with head support — are available in M, L, and XL at checkout. If you need a Small or XX-Large, contact us in live chat and we can order it for you.
How does the dual battery system work?
The LF500 Pro includes two battery packs and a remote wall/desk charging caddy. One battery powers the lift; the other charges remotely in the caddy. When the pendant signals low battery, squeeze the release clip, swap in the charged battery, and place the depleted one in the caddy to charge. The lift is never waiting on a recharge. The battery can also be charged while still in the lift by plugging into the control box, but the lift will not operate while charging this way.
What happens if the power fails while a patient is suspended?
The LF500 Pro has a manual emergency lowering device at the top of the actuator shaft. Pull the collar ring DOWN first, then turn it clockwise continuously until the patient is safely lowered. Note: this is a two-step procedure — pull down, then turn. It is different from the LF1050, which requires only a clockwise turn. Contact GF Tech Support at 1-770-368-4700 before resuming use after any emergency lowering.
Will insurance cover this lift?
Medicare covers manual hydraulic patient lifts as durable medical equipment, but not electric lifts. If you’re set on an electric lift, there’s a path worth knowing about: Medicare may reimburse you for what it would have paid toward a comparable manual lift, and you pay the difference. Any Medicare benefit requires the purchase to go through a Medicare-enrolled DMEPOS supplier — which ADHME is not. If maximizing your Medicare benefit is the priority, we’d recommend going that route instead.
Private insurance: Many private insurers cover electric patient lifts when prescribed as medically necessary by a physician. ADHME doesn’t bill insurance directly, but provides a detailed paid invoice with the HCPCS code that you can submit to your private insurer for reimbursement. Contact your insurer before ordering to confirm your coverage and any required documentation.
HSA and FSA: Patient lifts are generally eligible expenses under Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. The paid invoice ADHME provides serves as your documentation for reimbursement.
Use HCPCS Code E0635 when submitting to your private insurer for reimbursement.
